Waratah Room

2 to 3 years

Warm, stable and responsive relationships are fundamental to children’s development and wellbeing. In the Waratah room there is a big focus on building those bonds with your child.

A sense of belonging gives your child the confidence to explore the world and learn. And as this happens, they learn how to think, understand, communicate, behave, show emotions and develop their social skills.

As a toddler, your child is opening up to new challenges as their communication skills expand and they learn to concentrate, experiment and play. Our qualified educators support this journey through a curriculum of play-based learning activities to help your child explore their own interests and strengths. We also use the Abecedarian approach to help toddlers develop valuable language and literacy skills. Some of our core values are

Freedom and encouragement for the children to discover and explore their own ideas and interests.
Providing opportunities to develop and foster each child’s independence and self-help skills.
Offering a broad range of messy, sensory, creative, musical and imaginative experiences to support creative expression.

Australia’s Early Years Learning Framework “Belonging, Being and Becoming” is at the heart of our approach. The framework’s emphasis is on play-based learning, we incorporate this by offering a variety of ways to learn in which then supports each child’s individual needs.

We are a proudly multicultural and it is very important to us that we have the resources, skills and knowledge necessary to help children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including indigenous backgrounds, settle into GCIT Children’s Centre. It is imperative we lead children in recognising and respecting similarities and differences in cultures.

Early Childhood Education and Care

Hello, I’m Anne and I began my career in early education and care in 2014 right here at GCIT Children’s Centre. After taking 2 years off to travel and work in Canada I have returned as the lead educator in the Waratah 2-3 years room, this holds a special place in my heart as it is the same room I gained my start in. Prior to my time away I worked as the lead educator in the Nursery room. I appreciate the rewards and challenges that each age and stage early childhood care offers, however the first three years are definitely my favourite as I feel that the most diverse developments and learning a person will experience are in these years.

I am a big believer in forming strong, secure bonds with children as I know it can be a very daunting prospect for a child and parent to spend time away from each other. I pride myself in creating an environment where the children feel at home to discover themselves, their interests and begin to understand the world around them. On the same token I think it is just as valuable to have a clear understanding of each family, their beliefs and expectations as that is what makes us all who we are in our own special way.

GCITCC makes me proud to be a part of the community we have created here, from my fun loving co-workers to the families that have been coming here for years and treat us as one of their own.

Certificate III in Children’s Services

My name is Gabby and I work in the Waratah Room with Anne.  I am a mother of two children whom I adore.  I am currently studying my Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care.  I have been working at GCIT Children’s Centre for almost two years and I absolutely love it.

One of the many reasons I love what I do is because I get to watch the children grow and develop into their personalities.  I also enjoy supporting those relationships with the families, by sharing what the children get up to during the day.  I have always had a passion to work with children and am so lucky that I get to do it here.  GCIT has warmth and homely feel that makes everyone feel welcome.

Hi my name is Eva and I am so excited to be sharing your child’s early learning journey with you. I have worked in the Early Childhood industry for over 12 years and hold a Diploma of Children’s services. As a Mum, I understand all too well just how important high quality education and care for your special little person is to you.

I have worked alongside children of various ages and capabilities. As a reflective educator, I have a passionate desire to create an environment that will help nurture and foster children’s natural ability to investigate, explore and understand the world around them.

The children in my care will be learning and developing in a loving, safe, and nurturing environment where I would meet the unique needs of each child. I have an invested passion for children. They are our future generation, their education is important.
